In this February 1993 letter, frontman Jack Vigliatura reflects on an exciting new chapter as his band transitions from their previous moniker, Gorby’s Transmission, to For Squirrels.
With his trademark self-deprecating humor, Jack Vig shares the band’s nervous energy as they balance the pressures of college life with anticipation of their upcoming live debut at The Covered Dish in Gainesville.

Dear Mary,
Well, Well, it’s been a long time since I’ve done this so here goes – another lame letter from everybody’s favorite retard – Jack V formerly of Gorby’s Transmission now of For Squirrels!!
Anyway I’ve missed talking to you it was nice to hear from your voice again. The band is doing really well – today I saw the T-shirts for the Aids benefit. They’re pretty cool. We’re all pretty excited about it. It’s going to be a little different than playing at out-of-control parties because everyone is going to be there to listen, so we won’t be able to do quite as many stage antics to mask our lack of talent. I hope we’ll be ready.
School is going okay. I have a German test on Monday (tomorrow) so I have to force myself to study tonight seeing as how I got a “D” on the first one.
How about that Mtv President thing – I thought both the 10,000 Maniacs and Automatic Baby were so awesome – (mmm I wonder why?)
I probably won’t be home again until spring break because we are going to practice as much as possible before we make complete donkeys of ourselves on stage.
My spring break starts March 7th so hopefully we’ll be able to go out sometime while I’m home. Believe it or not, you are a big part of my life – big enough for me to miss our friendship. Thanks for being so understanding.
Love,
Jack
